BH Properties Adds Justin Thompson as General Counsel
Los Angeles, CA (June 1, 2023) — BH Properties has announced that veteran commercial real estate attorney Justin Thompson has joined the firm as General Counsel.
In private practice for more than 25 years at several of the nation’s most prestigious law firms, Thompson has represented many of the industry’s leading developers, investors and property owners. During his career, Thompson has been involved in a wide variety of transactions including acquisitions/dispositions, financings, development, leasing, loan restructurings, land exchanges, sale-leasebacks, and joint ventures, across all property types.
This experience will be invaluable to BH Properties as the Los Angeles-based real estate investment firm continues to grow its portfolio through its various business lines. BH invests in a wide variety of commercial real estate assets, performing and non-performing loans secured by those assets, as well as principal investing in debt instruments across the capital stack, according to President Jim Brooks.

Most recently, Thompson was a Partner at Nixon Peabody, LLP, serving as West Coast lead of the real estate group for the AMLAW 100 firm. He also served as managing partner for the firm’s Los Angeles office from 2018 through 2021. Previously, Thompson was a Partner and Co-Chair of the Hospitality Group at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLC in Los Angeles, where he was the firm’s expert on condominium/common interest development and related regulatory work.
Thompson earned his JD from the Louis D Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville where he was a Regional Editor and Member of the Journal of Law and Education. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, earning a BA in business administration with a focus in real estate and urban land development.
Thompson will be based in the firm’s West Los Angeles headquarters but will serve as a resource to BH Properties regional offices in Dallas, Phoenix, Houston and Seattle.
